No. I’ve worked with photographers across wedding, family, newborn and lifestyle photography, although much of my work has been with wedding and lifestyle photographers. That said, many clients come to me with an older or DIY website and, in a lot of cases, starting again gives us a much more polished result. It can actually be quicker and more cost-effective than trying to work around an existing design.

Absolutely. One of the things I love about Squarespace is how easy it is to manage once your website is live. You’ll be able to update galleries, swap images, change your copy and add new work yourself.

Blogging on Squarespace is really straightforward too, so you can easily share recent weddings, shoots, news or useful content without needing to hire a designer.

One of the big advantages of Squarespace is that it’s a fully hosted platform, so security, software updates and SSL are taken care of for you. You don’t need to install security plugins or constantly update software to keep the site protected, as you often do with WordPress. It means there’s far less technical maintenance to worry about day to day.

Usually fewer than you might think. A really good edit is far more effective than trying to show everything.

If you’re a wedding photographer, I recommend showing some complete real weddings so prospective clients can see the consistency of your work across a whole day. The same applies to family or lifestyle photography - showing a complete shoot gives people a much better sense of what they can expect.

I also like having a main portfolio page that brings together your very best images - a mix of couple shots, moments, details and wider scenes, to show the full breadth of your work.
